Hell Hath No Fury

What is goin' on y'all???  I don't have much news, other than the fact that it is hotter than Hades and there is no end in sight! This Texas heat is not conducive to, well, anything really.  I can't begin to describe to you folks who don't live here how friggin' hot a Texas summer can be.  We've had 12 days straight with temps over 100 and you cannot go outside without breaking into an instant sweat.  And as though that ain't enough, there are mosquitoes taking over life as we know it.  Inside, outside, in your car.  One actually woke me up on Saturday morning because I heard it buzzing in my ear!  Totally unacceptable.

It's tough to dress for this weather, when quite frankly, I'd just assume walk around naked.  But no one wants to see that, so I have been trying my hardest to make the best of our sweet little summer of hell.  I also decided to start a workout regimen and eating plan right smack in the middle of all this heat, so that's been really enjoyable.  I'm on week 4, but I took these pics right before I started, so hopefully they can serve as inspiration as I make my way through the first 90 days.  This dress looks cute now, so I can't imagine how it looks when I'm ripped to shreds and look like Jessica Biel.

Bag: Louis Vuitton Musette - awesome priced on pre-loved LV bags

Black and Blue

I mentioned in my last post that I was really loving the combination of different shades of blue and black.  I will have to be honest and say that my Olivia Palermo obsession has fueled the fire and given me tons of inspiration on both color trends and different silhouettes.  In my Pinterest folder, I focused on this pin for inspiration.  I love the colors, obviously, and the full skirt paired with the tweed jacket.

Since I had to attend our national sales meeting and it was freezing cold outside, I paired my tweed jacket ($15 at Marshall's!) and high waist skirt with tights and boots, rather than bare legs and heels.  The grey from my boots and vintage belt was the perfect color to pull it all together.  I also awarded myself Best Dressed at our meeting, just in case you were wondering ;)

Jacket: Monteau Los Angeles via Marshall's, great option
Top: H&M
Skirt: J.Crew Stripe Taffeta Mini, old but here is a version from French Connection for $17!!
Boots: Zara (old) awesome Sole Society version for $40!!
Belt: vintage Christian Dior
Tights: Target
Bracelets: J.Crew Classic Pave' Link, Kate Spade, Banana Republic, Stella & Dot Renegade Cluster Bracelet

Texture upon texture

I mentioned yesterday that I was racing around town all weekend trying to find a dress for my company Christmas party and, like a huge dingbat, this is what I decided to wear.  Cute? Um, duh.  Warm? Perfect amount of layers.  Practical? B*tch, please!  Who wears three shirts, knee high boots, and the skinniest skinny jeans with zero stretch ever placed on planet earth to the mall while speed shopping for a dress in an hour and a half timeframe?  THIS GIRL.   It took way longer to get undressed and redressed than it did to try on the 15 or so dresses that caught my eye.  Silly little blonde girl...

Anyways, I've been loving the look of the jackets that are out with canvas bodies and leather sleeves.  Instead of running out and buying one, I decided to create the illusion of one with a vest and faux leather jacket.  I think it actually works!

Vest: J.Crew (old) very similar for $18.97!
Jacket: Sammy Dress, awesome alternative here for $34
T-Shirt: H&M, similar
Clutch: Kate Spade Harrison Street Travel Wallet - ostrich option here
Bracelets: J.Crew Classic Pave' Link, Kate Spade - look at this one!!  Love it!, Banana Republic (in store only)

Things Change

Wow, what a weekend!  My slight departure from posting was due to a long awaited trip back to College Station, where I spent my glory days.  Although we lost our game to LSU (dang it!), I had such an amazing time visiting my old home and seeing familiar faces.   It's funny to look back and think how things have changed and how far they've come.  I never, in my wildest dreams would have thought that I would be where I am today, nor have gone through the things I have at this point in my life.  The best part is that I don't regret a single second and have learned so much about myself.  Although people and places change, those that remain constant are the most important; home, family, and friends that never leave your side.

Dress: Old Navy Crepe Tab-Sleeve Dress (similar version here)
Blazer: J.Crew Maritime Stripe Blazer (awesome option for $32)
Booties: Zara (old, but I want these soooo bad)
Clutch: Kate Spade (love the ostrich version)
Necklaces: J.Crew, West Avenue Monogram Necklace
Sunnies: RayBan Aviators
Ring: YSL Arty
Bracelet: J.Crew Classic Pave Link, vintage Hermes

A First Time For Everything

Well, it finally happened.  I read all the time where other bloggers lose their content, photos, and other earth shattering problems, but I think to myself "How lucky am I that it never happens to me?"  Evidently, I forgot to knock on wood...  I had taken several photos yesterday morning that turned out really great and they literally vanished into thin air after I had downloaded and edited them!  WTH?  I've done everything but take my MacBook apart to look inside.  I thought this is why people get Macs in the first place?  I will admit that I'm a dummy when it comes to Apple products, so they are most likely sitting on my desktop, but I am still sad that they're gone :(  Have fun with this outfit post!  I would have been WAY better!

An Obituary

It's the end of an era.  My most beloved Miley Cyrus denim shirt from Walmart has finally kicked the bucket.  She's been accidentally bleached, shrunken, and left out in the rain.  She's been used and abused, and she finally gave up on me.  All of the buttons have fallen off and there is a huge rip straight down the back.  I feel so sad...

Do you have a denim shirt that you absolutely love?  The perfect weight, color, and texture?  Please share. And while you do, I'll be scouring eBay for a replacement.

Denim: Miley Cyrus for Walmart
Striped Top: J.Crew Factory, similar
Pants: J Brand, invest!  these are the most flattering, amazing pants ever!
Heels: Banana Republic Mad Men Collection, identical
Necklace: J.Crew
Bracelets: vintage Hermes, J.Crew Pave Link Bracelet

Have a great weekend!  Hope your team wins, unless your team in LaTech!
