Knee High

I'm sure you remember the scene in Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts is fixin' to go out on the town and she uses a Sharpie to cover the scuffs on her heels.  This was the state that my usual over the knee Jessica Simpson boots had been in for some time.  So, instead of feeling like a hooker every time I put them on, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new pair.  Imagine my glee when I found these amazing Calvin Klein Averie Platform Boots at Nordstrom! I haven't been a skirt and boots type of gal until lately, simply because I've packed on a few LB's over the last year, but I've been hard at work in the gym and felt like I could finally strut these babies with a leather mini.  Other than the striped sweater, everything else is from a thrift or vintage store!  The skirt and jacket were great finds at Goodwill, while the necklace came from a local antique shop here in town.  You seen in worn with stripes before here, and the rich gold and candy colored stores give a monocromatic look a much needed splash of color.

Jacket, Skirt, Necklace : thrifted/vintage | Sweater : Banana Republic | Boots : Calvin Klein Averie Platform Boot | Socks : Velvet Heart (and a gift from my future mother in law) | Ring : Francesca's

Don't forget to enter the giveaway here for the Lipstick Rose Ram's Head Clutch Bangle, happening this coming Friday!!

Straight Hair Don't Care

I've written, cried, complained, and whined about my straight hair on many, many occasions.  It's baby fine, stringy, and plastered to my head, but sometimes I just don't have the time or energy to spend on curling every.single.day.  I've tried dry shampoo, I've tried volumizing shampoo, I've had layers cut, I've tried not washing it for a week and nothing ever gets me the beautiful, long, thick tresses that Jennifer Anniston has. See the third picture?  My futile effort at back combing left a rat's nest on the back of my head.  Awesome. Nothing like the appearance of wallowing in the bed all day, right?  Bed head ain't for me, y'all. I long for thick hair that has oomph!  Do you any of you fine hair beauties have any suggestions, products, techniques that seem to work?  I'm probably well beyond repair since my hair feels like straw from heat and product exposure, but it couldn't hurt right?

Also, I wanted to give a little shout out to Benevolent Jewels, the company that I purchased this necklace from.  They have such a super cool concept and donate money back to a different cause every 3 months. What a wonderful way to pull in two passions: accessories and charity!  They have a fabulous selection of pretty things, all at an unbeatable price point,  so be sure to check them out :)

** Style Note - I am very high waisted, so in BR I buy petites because the waist and hem are both way too long in a regular size**

Sunday Sunshine

Hey chickens!  How was your week?  I hope it at least pretty decent, because mine was downright shitty.  Actually, it's been rather shitty for the past three weeks or so, but who's counting at this point.

It's funny how you get really comfortable and are so happy when things are going smoothly, but when the smallest thing (or biggest thing) goes wrong it just throws you way off. That's me, though it may not be you.  When something goes awry, I pretty much shut down and feel paralyzed.  Now, this isn't in every aspect of my life, but I'm not one of you chicks who falls down and immediately gets right back up and keeps going.  Nosireebob, I will lay there for hours thinking about why I fell down, all the different avenues I can take in getting up, and what outfit I will wear with each option.  I wallow, scream, wail, I might take a nap.  And then I do it all over again.  Yes, friends, I am an "overanalyzer" (I know that's not a word), but that's what I am.  Is there a support group for this kind of thing?  I don't know if I would have time for it anyways, because it would probably take too much time away from my analysis.

In an effort to pull myself out of my funk, I decided to go un-casual on casual Friday.  In a sea of tee shirts, jeans, and flip flops, I stuck out like a nicely manicured sore thumb in one of my staple dresses from the mothership.  Now, I am never one to wear the aforementioned articles of clothing on Fridays.  My idea of casual is wearing flats, but I felt good and some good stuff happened.  My first boss in the mortgage business, an impeccably dressed, handsome man who became a wonderful friend and mentor, always told me that beautiful clothes breed success and he was right.  He also told me that if I wore pink moccasins in his presence ever again, he would fire me.  He was serious, too.  I still have those shoes in my closet as a reminder, but I will never wear them again.

Dress: J.Crew (sold out) similar option
Heels: BCBG, old, but I like these better
Necklaces: J.Crew Fanfare, J.Crew Gold Link
Bracelets: J.CrewJ.Crew, but here is a good "inspired version" for $12.99, Stella & Dot, F21

On another note, you crazy folks have been hounding me to start an Instagram account, so your wish is my command.  Follow workdayweekend to join me in my day to day ridiculousness!

Millionaires Club

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending an event hosted by Madison Hildebrand of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing LA.  He was so incredibly sweet and humble and I really enjoyed the event.  In my business, I attend a lot of networking type get-togethers, and it's always a question of how to dress.  The events are generally held in a bar or restaurant, but always on a work day, so I usually end up in something business-y, yet something that stands out.  The whole point is to make new connections and business opportunities, so my pop of red in this particular outfit was the little something extra.
