A Shearling Story

When I was asked to work with Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation and The Impeccable Pig in styling a look for their silent auction, of course I jumped at the chance!  I've been blessed to know the folks at The Foundation for a few years now and their annual Yellow and Black Tie Gala benefiting the medical and cancer centers is a wonderful event.  These men and women work tirelessly each year to put together a fabulous evening that raises money for cancer research and awareness.  The Impeccable Pig, a boutique with locations in Texas, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee graciously donated the fantastic bag in the pictures below as an auction item for this years event.  My job was to put together a look that showcased the bag, along with my favorite items from their store.  It's such an honor for me to participate in something that has a cause behind it.  A huge, giant, Texas-sized thank you to everyone involved and for the opportunity to participate.

Now, let's talk about the clothes!! The second I walked in, I just knew that I had to style an entire outfit around this shearling vest.  I mean the bag.  Oops.  Anywho, I fell in love with the vest and lucky for me, it went flawlessly with the bag.  To be totally honest, the palazzo pants weren't my cup of tea, simply because this chick generally steers clear of prints on her booty.  The girls at The Impeccable Pig insisted that I try them, so I set my trunk junk aside and trusted them and guess what?  They were right!  These pants are not only comfortable, but they are slimming.  Yep, you heard me.  Once I threw on my big girl platforms, I had legs for days and the roll down waist band kept everything right where it needed to be.  Once we had those three pieces knocked out, I added the sweatshirt and y'all know I've never met a sweatshirt I didn't like.  I piled on some of my own accessories and voila!  A luxe boho look that is both comfy and chic.  By the way, this bag has a removable clutch inside, so it's super versatile and will go with just about any look and any color.  What do you guys think?

If you aren't familiar with The Impeccable Pig, get your can over there ASAP.  They have unique boutique clothes at great prices, not to mention some awesome jewelry and gifts!

Black and Blue

I mentioned in my last post that I was really loving the combination of different shades of blue and black.  I will have to be honest and say that my Olivia Palermo obsession has fueled the fire and given me tons of inspiration on both color trends and different silhouettes.  In my Pinterest folder, I focused on this pin for inspiration.  I love the colors, obviously, and the full skirt paired with the tweed jacket.

Since I had to attend our national sales meeting and it was freezing cold outside, I paired my tweed jacket ($15 at Marshall's!) and high waist skirt with tights and boots, rather than bare legs and heels.  The grey from my boots and vintage belt was the perfect color to pull it all together.  I also awarded myself Best Dressed at our meeting, just in case you were wondering ;)

Jacket: Monteau Los Angeles via Marshall's, great option
Top: H&M
Skirt: J.Crew Stripe Taffeta Mini, old but here is a version from French Connection for $17!!
Boots: Zara (old) awesome Sole Society version for $40!!
Belt: vintage Christian Dior
Tights: Target
Bracelets: J.Crew Classic Pave' Link, Kate Spade, Banana Republic, Stella & Dot Renegade Cluster Bracelet

Brights in Fall

First off, today was a better day, so thank God for that.  Ended with some spectacular, albeit, unexpected news, so that was just the cherry on top!  Funny how things can turn around on a dime :)

I had a comment on my Facebook page for WorkdayWeekend that asked, basically, if pastels and brights can be worn in fall and winter.  My answer was a resounding "Absolutely, yes!" so with that in mind, I put this outfit together this morning.  Like I've mentioned before, I try and purchase items that can be worn year round.  Of course there are a few sweaters and furs thrown into the mix, but for the most part, I love to put together pieces from all seasons.  You've seen every item I'm wearing in today's post on the blog before, actually.  To avoid looking like an Easter egg in, which I find perfect acceptable when it's warm out, it's nice to pair brights with similar shades of jewel tones.  You know I wear my J.Crew Linen Tippy Sweater all the dang time, so I wanted to show it paired with maroon (whoop!) jeans to make it appropriate for fall.  Although my vest is kelly green, it's still a fall item, and I felt very cheerful today in such bold and fun colors.  Maybe that was me sending the universe a message that I needed a happy day.

Hope yours was happy, as well!

Kate must have a tiny...

I watched waaaaaaaay to much Sex and the City when I was in college, and I still watch it on Style to this day.  It never gets old to me and I have nearly every episode memorized.  On a daily basis, something happens, or somebody says something, or I see something that reminds me of a situation from the show.  Today was no different.  I had a business meeting this morning, so I was dressed for work.  Unfortunately, I also had my annual OBGYN appointment in the afternoon, so I showed up to the gyno looking fab in my Louby's and my Kate Spade skirt.  I was literally on the table, and the episode where the girls are talking about having their times of the month, Samantha being left out, of course, popped into my head.

Charlotte: Do you have another?
Carrie: Ladies, I am not Tampax central. Put on list: buy tampons.
Charlotte: Well, I have them at home but they won't fit in my Kate Spade purse.
Miranda: Wow—Kate must have a tiny vagina.

Seriously, it never gets old.

So, on to the outfit.  I completely died when my mom picked this up at Goodwill on a trip there last fall.  I screamed.  LOUD.  I knew it was Kate Spade because I had tried this exact skirt on at Nordstrom the year before, but couldn't justify spending the $199.  This was my lucky day and I even had help digging through the racks that day.  It was meant to be.  $2.99 friends.  I will have to say that the tweed had been completely frizzed out.  I don't know how else to put it.  Kind of like when a sweater pills, ya know?  It looks like a beautiful chia pet.  I put mom to work on it and she made it good as new. She was also sweet enough to let me babysit her Tory clutch for a few weeks.

Skirt: Kate Spade Kylie Tweed Skirt, thrifted, great option from Ann Taylor
Top: New York & Co, very similar at Urban Outfitters
Bag: Tory Burch Ainsley Logo Clutch (no longer avail, but I love this color for fall!)
Necklaces: J.Crew, West Avenue via Max & Chloe
Ring: F21 (old, but love these for $4.80)
Bracelets: vintage Hermes, J.Crew, F21

Can you tell I've committed to fall with the dark nails?
