Peter Som x Made in Kind

Hello loves!  I have officially come out of hibernation since the sun is shining here in Texas, thank you sweet baby Jesus!  I took full advantage of the warmer temperatures yesterday and had fun with some spring outfits that I have been dying to photograph.  We had an extended three day weekend plus a couple more days due to the Valentine's eve wedding of some close friends here in Dallas.  Man, did I wear a fun dress to that event.  Stay tuned for an upcoming post!

I hate to admit this, but I don't really shop at Anthropologie.  I think I have this made up idea of what it is in my head and it always prevents me from walking in.  Granny chic meets flower child meets dowdy is what I have felt in the past, even though I am proven by some of my fellow bloggers time and time again that I am dead wrong.  My iPhone pooped out on me (more on that story later) so I was at the Apple store, which happens to be in the mall right next to Anthro.  I was feeling especially crazy and didn't want to buy anything so I played it safe and walked in.  Boy, were my preconceived notions totally wrong!  I was met not only with a major s.a.l.e. (y'all know it takes an act of Congress to get me in anything full price) but the biggest selection of high waisted dresses and skirts, which are most definitely in my comfort zone.  I was in heaven!  I walked out of there with frocks of sequins, lace, stripes, appliqué, you name it.

One of my absolute favorite purchases was this Peter Som x Made in Kind dress that is going to be perfect for one of the 10,000 weddings, showers, or engagement parties that are in my future. I mixed it up a bit with a leather jacket, just to give another look that wasn't so super girly.  It fits like a glove and it has pockets y'all.  Sometimes I feel like I would still buy the ugliest dress on the planet if it had pockets.

Have You Seen My Baseball?

What a great movie that was, seriously.  Magda was always my very favorite character with her hot pink lipstick and fabulous tan.  I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, but whenever I hear the word baseball, I immediately think of sweet Warren and not the Texas Rangers.  Anywho, I've really turned into a beanie type of gal this year.  I've always loved a good hat, but have never been one to sport a beanie.  Maybe it's the fact that my ears will fall off in this weather without one, but I am totally diggin' the look lately.  I have also been patiently waiting for a good pair of faux leather pants to come across my path and these were just what I needed.  I have big legs and a big bootie, and I like to sit with my legs curled up underneath me at all times.  These are characteristics that just don't take kindly to leather pants.  I don't think I could invest in a real pair because they would stretch out like my leather pencil skirt and that would be a death sentence, friends.  These are leather on the front and business in the back, kind of like a reverse mullet.

Knee High

I'm sure you remember the scene in Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts is fixin' to go out on the town and she uses a Sharpie to cover the scuffs on her heels.  This was the state that my usual over the knee Jessica Simpson boots had been in for some time.  So, instead of feeling like a hooker every time I put them on, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new pair.  Imagine my glee when I found these amazing Calvin Klein Averie Platform Boots at Nordstrom! I haven't been a skirt and boots type of gal until lately, simply because I've packed on a few LB's over the last year, but I've been hard at work in the gym and felt like I could finally strut these babies with a leather mini.  Other than the striped sweater, everything else is from a thrift or vintage store!  The skirt and jacket were great finds at Goodwill, while the necklace came from a local antique shop here in town.  You seen in worn with stripes before here, and the rich gold and candy colored stores give a monocromatic look a much needed splash of color.

Jacket, Skirt, Necklace : thrifted/vintage | Sweater : Banana Republic | Boots : Calvin Klein Averie Platform Boot | Socks : Velvet Heart (and a gift from my future mother in law) | Ring : Francesca's

Straight Hair Don't Care

I've written, cried, complained, and whined about my straight hair on many, many occasions.  It's baby fine, stringy, and plastered to my head, but sometimes I just don't have the time or energy to spend on curling every.single.day.  I've tried dry shampoo, I've tried volumizing shampoo, I've had layers cut, I've tried not washing it for a week and nothing ever gets me the beautiful, long, thick tresses that Jennifer Anniston has. See the third picture?  My futile effort at back combing left a rat's nest on the back of my head.  Awesome. Nothing like the appearance of wallowing in the bed all day, right?  Bed head ain't for me, y'all. I long for thick hair that has oomph!  Do you any of you fine hair beauties have any suggestions, products, techniques that seem to work?  I'm probably well beyond repair since my hair feels like straw from heat and product exposure, but it couldn't hurt right?

Also, I wanted to give a little shout out to Benevolent Jewels, the company that I purchased this necklace from.  They have such a super cool concept and donate money back to a different cause every 3 months. What a wonderful way to pull in two passions: accessories and charity!  They have a fabulous selection of pretty things, all at an unbeatable price point,  so be sure to check them out :)

Leather and Dots

First off, I want to thank all of you who shared such sweet comments and well wishes concerning our engagement via the blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.  We are just so excited and happy to be taking the next step and I am excited to take you guys along with us :)

Like several of you, I'm sure, I can't go to Target without blowing $100 or more on absolutely nothing, and Sunday was no exception.  After enjoying a long, lazy day napping, I decided I wanted spaghetti for dinner and decided to go to Target because I also needed conditioner.  Evidently, the cleaning lady thinks it's funny to throw away my conditioner bottle, BEFORE, I slosh water around in it in order to get the very last remnants.  Anyways, I was super stoked to see how stinkin' cute the new stuff for fall is.  I mean, I'm the first to admit that I wouldn't spend more than $30 on a pencil skirt with a faux leather peplum, and low and behold, there one was on the front row right by the magazines.  That led to several other purchases that I will be showing off in the next couple days, but how great is it to purchase 4 full outfits that can really all mix and match for less than $150?  I honestly felt pretty comfortable making a couple "risky" purchases that I otherwise wouldn't have made, at say, Neiman's.

Have you guys found anything super cute at Target lately?  I am very impressed, clearly :)  How great does this dot blouse blend in with all my other things from places like J.Crew, Zara, etc?  It feels good is a thicker material, doesn't wrinkle.  Perfect.

P.S.  I apologize for blinding you with my non-spray tanned skin.  Sorry about that!

Heels: BCBG (old) wallet friendly version
Bag: Banana Republic (old), dream minaudière
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (old) but I think I would trade Famous for this one

Sammy Love

Have y'all heard of SammyDress.com?  I got this email in my work inbox a few weeks back and it was a link to their website.  The ad looked interesting enough, so I thought I would check it out.  Low and behold it's the holy grail of cheap but chic F21 style fashion, but less expensive.  Yes, really.

Now, I'm never a proponent of filling your closet with inexpensive garbage, but there are times when certain "low" pieces can be mixed with "high" ones.  This jacket, for example was $8.98.  It's not leather, it's almost the same material that liquid leggings are made from, from I totally dig the tight fit and the snake print.  I also love the tough juxtaposition against my sweet mint skirt (last seen here)

I would definitely recommend you take a look at the site just to check it out.  There are great styling pics for almost every outfit and they even have shoes and accessories.

***Disclaimer: I am not being paid to promote SammyDress.com (sadly) and the above comments are my own experiences and feelings.***
